Schoolwork

Our art gallery has been updated! From left to right: Brent's kite, Lillian's imitation of Brent's kite, Lucas's first art creation, Lillian traced and colored her own hands.

Lillian put in some extra study time this weekend. Pre-K has high standards!

Sick Day

Lillian had to miss school Wednesday because of a fever so Lucas and I kept her company at home. She alternated between the couch and our bed, watching movies and sleeping. I pumped juice and vitamin C in her, trying to minimize the time out of school. At one point she felt well enough to play in a tent with Lucas.

After 24 hours and TLC, her fever was gone and she went back to school today. I guess several kids have been sick already. They've been there a week; just enough time to spread germs around the classroom.

Weekend Warriors

Saturday was one of those days where the general attitude was "we're going to do something fun and everyone WILL have fun even if we're completely miserable." I think we nailed the completely miserable part! After a long week at school and several sleepless nights for various reasons, all members of the Young family were cranky and tired Saturday morning. Did we rest and hang around the house? No! After Lillian did some chores to put my energy back because I had to listen to whining, we loaded up for the promised trip to the zoo. We joined hundreds of other families, sweating and trying to act happy. Our crew lasted 1 hour then we beat it to McDonald's and home. The camera went along for a ride in the bag. Thankfully, Sunday was better and I had the energy to take a few pictures of their darling faces.

First Day of School

She did it! Today was the big day and it all went well. To minimize the emotional upheaval for me, Brent took her this morning. She went right in despite a change in what we had prepared her for. Her teacher is Mrs. McMahan and she has one boy in her class who was with her at Kiddie Kollege.
Class of 2022
She really looks older than pre-K.

My first day of school happened today, too. Mine was uneventful except for several moments of anxiety when I thought of what Lillian was doing today. Now that the year is underway, posts to the blog will be sporadic at best. Once a week will be the goal; anything more will be a bonus.

8 months

Who knew 8 months could pass so quickly?!?!

@ 8 months: Lucas is making new sounds- like dadadada. Brent is thrilled!
He is trying a little bit of what we eat every night as he transitions to "real" food.
- Started daycare last week and has adjusted fine
- Gets in the crawling position from sitting but has yet to go anywhere

- Still only 1 tooth, continues to drink from a cup, thinks Lillian is the greatest

Family news update: My sister, Heather, is officially engaged to Jesse McKee. They plan to marry next summer. Now, my kids will have an Uncle Jesse. Am I the only one who thinks that's funny?!?!

Lillian and Lucas have a new cousin. Brady Evan Young was born this morning. He joins big brother, Jackson, who has been featured on this blog in the past.

Hold on tight!

Yummy!

Weekend Warriors

We haven't been very warrior-like this weekend. It's actually been too quiet around here. Lillian has been gone since Thursday; she's spending time with both sets of grandparents before school starts. Here is a pic of the kids last week:
Lucas was thrilled to spend Sat. morning without clothes. He looks like a starving child with a skinny chest and arms. Check out the farmer's tan on the arm.

Lucas misses Lillian. He keeps looking around like he expects her to pop out at any moment. Whenever we pass her room, he looks in like she might still be asleep. It is really sweet. I'm not sure she misses him but she did tell Grammy that it was awfully quiet without Lucas around.

As he approaches 8 months, Lucas has been trying more "people" food. He's had turkey, ham, pears, and grapes. In fact, I just spent the last 15 minutes peeling the skin off tiny pieces of grape so he could mash them easier between his gums. We'll try ravoli pasta tonight.

Lillian prefers to just stay home and play on Sat. mornings so we took advantage of her absence and ventured in to Guthrie's farmer's market. That has Brent brimming with ideas for next year's garden. We shopped in a thrift store I've always wanted to see and found some great deals. Ralph Lauren and Baby Gap shirts for 99 cents are too good to pass up!

Weekend Warriors Part 2

When we got home from Tulsa Sunday evening, we quickly changed clothes, unloaded the car, and reloaded ourselves for a quick fishing adventure at Guthrie Lake. Lillian and Brent bought worms at the corner store and she proudly carried her Barbie fishing pole and tackle box.

Brent baits the hook; Lillian coos at the worms.
Patiently waiting...

She got one! Her first fish was caught in a record time of less than 2 minutes! Get a good look at her face...she was as surprised as we were.

Proud fisherwoman
Lucas and I hung around- taking pictures, touching tree bark, and watching ants.

All in all, Lillian caught 3 fish within a very short amount of time and learned to cast the line herself. It was a success because she asked to go back today. Brent is thrilled!

Weekend Warriors

We started the weekend with Uncle Faron, Aunt Chrisie, and Cole coming for dinner Friday night.
Finding a common interest
Then, we headed to Tulsa to see Uncle Ty and Aunt Lindsey. Brent was involved in a fence building project that somehow escaped my camera. Lindsey and I were too busy keeping Nuts (the dog) away from Lucas. He just loved that sweet baby smell!

Here was our solution: Nuts on one side of the glass, Lucas on the other. Perfect!
Nuts looks forlorn.
Posing for a pic. Yes, that's an old Theta shirt he's wearing. It has been demoted to changing oil, working in the yard, and building fence.

Stay tuned for the next installment of our weekend activities. Sunday was a full day!

School Supplies- *Gulp*

Preschool supplies are nothing compared to pre-K stuff! Look closely- you will see batteries, safety pins, and Zip-Loc bags. All of this is making me very curious. I'll be sure to update you through the year as these items are used.
Seriously, the big day is rapidly approaching. Lillian is excited; I'm anxious. I had to pause in the backpack aisle of Wal-Mart to take a deep breath when I saw her try on the one she wanted.

Our Beach Vacation

We spent a week in a resort community west of Galveston. It was located around a little town called Jamaica Beach. My parents rented a house with spectacular views very near the beach. I've posted a lot of pictures but not as many as I could have. Here is an overview of our week:
