Our Week

When school started again in August, I quickly lost my "free time" to do things just for me. One of those was taking pictures and posting on the blog. Now, I can barely make more than 1 post a week! Our evenings seem so short even with the great hours I enjoy as a teacher. We spend most of the time eating, cleaning, or getting ready for the next day. Here is a sampling of what Lillian and Lucas have been up to this week:

Finding pieces of food dropped from previous meals...
"Is she looking? Do I dare?"
"Yep, she sees me and she has a camera but I'm going for it!"
"I did it! I can play with the dirty cups in the dishwasher!"
Another picture with no shirt...
That big piece of orange glop on his head is a smashed carrot. That explains the lack of clothing.

If you look closely, you can see the beginning of curls on the back of his head!

Quote from Lillian

As we were driving home from school yesterday, Lillian and I were discussing various vehicles we saw on the road. Out of nowhere she said, "Aunt Lindsey said no minivans for her!"

So, Sweet Simplicity, your words made a BIG impression on Lillian!

9 months old

Lucas @ 9 months:
-crawling everywhere!
-still only 2 teeth
-has learned to sit up from lying down
-has been known to pull himself up on his crib at night and not know how to get down
-loves green grapes and turkey for supper
-plays "bumper cars" with Lillian; she's on her bike, he's in his walker
-is fascinated with doorstops, especially the sound they make
-weighs approx. 21 lbs and is about 29 in long. Official appt isn't until October.
-wears 12 month clothes and a size 3-4 shoe
-still a very happy baby except when battling ear infections; he's on #2 and this one was a bad one
-still likes to cuddle
-throws his head back and yells when you take his toy away (terrible 2's, look out!)

It's Been Awhile...

Over the past few days, I've taken pictures but haven't found the time to download and post on the blog with the sickness and general craziness that is normal around our house. Here is a sampling of the past 2 weeks:
Lillian poses with her "Chia Pet" ladybug from Uncle Trace and Aunt Sarah.
Visit from Grandma Joyce and Granddad Ernest

Just because he's cute!

The Past 24 Hours

Monday, 2:30 PM- Teaching a stimulating lesson to pre-AP students about the proper usage of commas (gag) when a note is delivered by the perky office aide- "Lucas has fever of 103, call day care."

2:35 PM- quickly finish lesson without letting them see my panic and assign 5 problems to be completed by the bell (2:45) so I can rush out and call.

2:40 PM- the worst is confirmed with day care, promise to pick up kid within 20 minutes; call doctor and get an appt. for 5 PM

2:45 PM- bell rings; I rush out before the students

3:30 PM- both kids are picked up and we are home; carry a fussy baby around for an hour, waiting for Brent to get home.

4:40 PM- Brent is home to stay with Lillian; I rush out the door with Lucas

5:00 PM- Dr. C confirms it is probably viral (argghhh!)and recommends Lucas stay home tomorrow (another argghhhh!) Oh, his fever is a mere 98.9 at the dr. office.

Spend the next few hours trying to decide "do I keep him home and miss another day of school (at this rate, I'll be out of sick days by Christmas!) or dose him with Motrin (I've done it before!) and send him on?!?!?!

8:00 PM- baby in bed with fever of 100 and fussy

10:36 PM-11:45 PM- constant waking, still fussy, still fever

11:46 PM- finally give in and give Tylenol

11:50PM- call sub system and prepare to miss school Tuesday

Periodic waking through the night which culminates with me rising at 5:45 AM to go to school to get out sub plans.

6:30AM- return home to everyone awake, Lucas is crying with MAJOR green snot coming out of his nose. Promptly wipe nose (btw- hubby is calming dressing for work)

6:32 AM check temp- no fever. Wait, is that right?!! Check again- yep, no fever.

7-7:45AM- dress children and fix breakfast, leave to take Lillian to school

8:15AM - return home with Sonic breakfast and Lucas, who still has no fever, is acting perfectly normal.

9:07 AM- baby sleeping peacefully (no fever) and mom is tired, stressed, and probably missed a day of school for nothing.

Whoever invented viruses had a sick sense of humor.

Giveway

I love blogs with giveways! For a chance to win a beautiful pendant necklace, head to
Fresh Perspective for a chance to win. You have until early Monday morning to enter. The designer she's featuring has really neat stuff. FYI: I like the cube necklace in olive for anyone thinking of a gift for me in the future!

You're It

According to the rules I read on Sweet Simplicity's blog, I'm supposed to "tag" other people to write 6 random facts. I might have readers who haven't already been tagged so I'll choose Bloggin It From the Burbs, Yng4Evr, Davis Kids, and MonkeyToes and Chicken Hair. Get to it, girls! I want to know 6 random facts about you!

Random Facts

Lindsey tagged me to list 6 random facts about myself. At first, I thought I wouldn't do it because I don't have the luxury of free time to sit down and come up with 6. But... I finally decided I could do it. Here goes...

1). I secretly dream of being a librarian because I love the smell and feel of books. Am I weird yet?

2). I keep a journal of lists about everything from ideas for gifts to lesson plans. I recently made a list of ideas for Lillian's birthday party and a list of books that I want to read this school year.

3). I love to organize! Brent has accused me of making up reasons to go in the attic and sort clothes in boxes. Hey, I can't help that OCD part of my nature.

4). I can't just sit and watch tv. I'm either reading a book or on the internet at the same time.

5). I despise cleaning bathrooms and folding clothes. Who doesn't?!?!

6). My mind is not wired to remember titles of songs, who sang them, or when they were released.

Happy Birthday, Lillian!

1st birthday-2004

2nd birthday-2005 (oops- it downloaded sideways!)
3rd birthday-2006
4th birthday- 2007
5th birthday-2008
At 9:58 a.m. on this day 5 years ago, we became parents. What a journey it has been but certainly one I will never forget. We started the day with a breakfast of red pancakes then I took goldfish crackers, fruit snacks, and juice to her class at school. (we wanted to do donuts but the "healthy snack" rule got us on that one) She got to wear a tiara in her classroom and had a special sticker in the play room. Tonight, we have invited 5 kids and their parents to join us for a party at Incredible Pizza. Up to this point, it has been a successful birthday!

Lillian's Creativity

Lillian made hats for her animals all by herself. Notice the names say "Lily." She is toying with the idea of going by another name and is trying it out on Elephant, Tiger, and Chickie.
